J. Scott is an author of high-concept fantasy and imaginative children’s literature, dedicated to crafting stories that capture the imagination across generations. Writing under his pen name, he is the creative force behind the sweeping epic The Scrollbearer Saga, the profound narrative non-fiction memoir The Book of John, and vibrant children’s works including Tales from the Hollow and The ABC's to Zachery's Zzzzs.
His journey as a storyteller began decades ago in the north woods of Wisconsin. Growing up in the close-knit community of Gilman and graduating from Gilman High School in 1988, he discovered a passion for intricate world-building early in life. It was during his senior year as a Gilman Pirate that he penned the foundational poem, The Darkened Light of Joshua Clay. This creative spark would quietly anchor his imagination for years before evolving into an expansive, multi-book fantasy universe exploring faith, consequence, and redemption.
Beyond the realm of epic fiction, his writing takes a deeply personal turn with The Book of John: A Gospel of Endurance. This narrative non-fiction work chronicles the true story of his father’s life, balancing the heavy shadows of trauma and wartime memory with a profound message of grace, resilience, and the quiet strength it takes to carry others.
Today, J. Scott balances the vast, untamed terrain of creative writing with an innate appreciation for technical precision and hands-on craftsmanship. Whether he is drafting a complex new chapter at his desk, working with precision in his woodshop, or enjoying the peaceful lakes of Northern Wisconsin with his family, his work remains anchored by a singular belief: that even in the darkest places, the light endures.
