Editing & Proofreading

A Scalpel, Not a Chainsaw.

Your story already has a heartbeat.

Our job is to make sure the reader hears it clearly, without cutting out what makes it yours.

At Sparky Bites Publishing, editing is about preserving your voice, not rewriting it. We respect tone, rhythm, emotional beats, and your natural cadence. We polish; we don’t reshape. We clean the fur, clip the nails, and brush out the tangles, but the dog is still your dog.

This is the Pack’s approach to clean, credible, professional editing.

Light Editing

Your Voice — Clearer, Sharper, Stronger.

Light Editing is ideal when your story is solid but needs:

  • Grammar and punctuation correction
  • Sentence and flow adjustments
  • Clarity improvements
  • Consistency fixes
  • Tone preservation
  • Light smoothing of rough edges
  • Removal of unintentional repetition
  • Pacing polish

We do not:

  • Change your voice
  • Rewrite your chapters
  • Alter your storytelling style
  • Inject someone else’s personality into your pages

This is your story, we just help it read clean.

Light Editing is perfect for authors who want a professional finish without losing the emotional DNA of their writing.

Proofreading

The Final Polish Before Print.

Once your book is fully edited and formatted, proofreading is the last sweep before it goes to press.

We catch:

  • Typos
  • Missing words
  • Extra spaces
  • Incorrect punctuation
  • Formatting glitches
  • Layout errors
  • Minor inconsistencies

Proofreading is the safety net that ensures your book goes to print as clean as possible.

Which One Do You Need?

Choose Light Editing if:

  • Your draft is complete
  • You want it polished without rewriting
  • You want to maintain your natural voice
  • You want better clarity, flow, and rhythm

Choose Proofreading if:

  • Your book is formatted
  • You’re preparing for print
  • You need one final pass for errors
  • You want peace of mind before publication

Many authors choose both: Light Editing → Format → Proofreading.

Our Editing Philosophy

Respect the Voice. Honor the Story.

We believe editing should:

  • Strengthen your work
  • Preserve your tone
  • Focus on clarity, not control
  • Help your writing breathe
  • Support your vision

Your voice matters. Your story belongs to you.

Our role is to protect both while elevating your craft.

What Comes Next

After editing, most authors head into:

  • Design & Layout – where your book becomes beautiful
  • Audio, Music & Video – if your story needs a voice
  • Visibility – so readers can find you
  • Bundles – for a full start-to-finish publishing path

Ready to Polish Your Story?

Choose Light Editing or Proofreading from the Pack menu, or reach out if you’re not sure which trail fits your book. We’ll guide you.

Your story is already strong.
Let’s help it shine.

How Editing & Proofreading Billing Works

Simple. Transparent. Based on your actual manuscript.

Some services—like ISBNs, cover design, or consultations—have flat rates.

Editing and proofreading don’t work the same way, because every manuscript is different.

Different lengths. Different needs. Different levels of polish.

To keep things fair, honest, and author-friendly, all editing services at Sparky Bites Publishing follow a simple, transparent billing process:

1. You send your manuscript (or tell us the word count).

You can upload the file or simply paste the word count from your document.
No pressure. No commitments.

2. We calculate your exact cost — down to the word or page.

Pricing is based on the actual length of your manuscript:

  • Light Editing: $0.01–$0.015 per word
  • Proofreading: $2–$3 per page

Nothing hidden. No surprise fees.
Just clean math.

3. You receive a simple invoice via GoDaddy Payments (or Stripe/PayPal if you prefer).

The invoice shows:

  • The total word/page count
  • The exact rate
  • What the service includes
  • Your payment link
  • What happens next

You review it, approve it, and pay when ready.

4. Work begins the moment your invoice is paid.

No delays.
No confusion.
No nickel-and-diming.

Once the invoice is paid, we dig in — polishing your pages with a scalpel, not a chainsaw.

Why We Bill This Way

Because it’s the fairest method for indie authors.
Flat-rate editing often means:

  • authors overpaying for short books
  • editors rushing longer books
  • surprising add-on charges later
  • unclear expectations

We prefer transparency.

You only pay for the actual work needed for your actual manuscript.
Nothing more. Nothing less.

Need a ballpark estimate first? Just send your word count.

We’ll give you a quick, free estimate before we invoice anything.
